Skiers have the option of changing events up until bib pick-up on Thursday, March 23, 2017.

More snow headed our way

With the Sonot Kkaazoot just a little over a month away, more snow is headed our way as shown in the 6 to 10 day forecast.

This snow will set up nicely as another cold front will follow it:

Fortunately, head groomer, Tom Helmers should be well rested from his Hawaiian vacation and ready to get the piston bully grooming again.

Sunday’s Distance Race #3 will start and end at the biathlon range

The Buetow Dental Distance Race #3 is scheduled for Sunday, 19 February 2017. The temperatures will be mild and trails will be groomed to perfection. Because cold weather caused the Conoco Phillips Winter Carnival scheduled for last Sunday to be delayed until this Sunday, the Distance Race #3 course will start at the Biathlon Range at 11 a.m. Bib pickup and race day registration will take place in the biathlon building NOT in Rikke’s Roadhouse.

The course map can be viewed here:

This would make a loop of about 10 km, so the 30 km skiers would do it three times. If you’re not ready to ski 30 km, you can ski just 10 km. Come and enjoy skiing the new Sunnyside Trail.

Valentine gift of fun in the sun

With the cold weather behind us and the Birch Hill groomers working to make our ample snow pack into amazing trails, why not register your special valentine in the 30th annual Sonot Kkaazoot? There are 4 different events to choose from: 50 km classical technique (with early start), and 20, 40 and 50 km freestyle (with classical tracks set on the entire course).

Because we are celebrating our 30th anniversary, the first 250 skiers to register will get a specially designed Sonot Kkaazoot hat (designed by Margo Klass and Frank Soos) and 30th anniversary zipper pull (designed by Bernardo Hernandez and Mike Schmoker).

You have only 10 days to early register. On February 24, all registration fees increase by $10. So make the commitment now for you and your significant others.

See you on the trails.
