Regular registration ends Friday

Exercise, especially outdoors where you’re almost always more than a meter away from another skier, is beneficial in boosting your immune system and lowering stress. To date, 85 skiers ranging in age from 8 to 71 have registered for the 33rd Denali State Bank Sonot Kkaazoot.

Here is the current breakdown of entries:

20 km event: 38 skiers

40 km event: 8 skiers

50 km event: 39 skiers

Regular registration ends Friday. After that, you’ll be charged late registration fees. With 85 skiers spread over 50 km of ski trails, the likelihood of you contacting the coronavirus during the Sonot Kkaazoot is extremely low even if entries double before race day. This year’s snowfall and cold weather has the course looking spectacular with a little more than two weeks before the Sonot Kkaazoot.

Click the “register” tab at the top of this blogsite and you can securely sign up for any of the three events.

Pick up your Sonot bibs tonight

With 366 skiers already signed up for the 32nd annual Denali State Bank Sonot Kkaazoot, local skiers are strongly urged to attend early bib pick-up at the Doyon, Ltd. Building TONIGHT from 5 to 7 p.m. With just one mass start on Saturday, bib pick-up on race morning will be much more congested than normal.

Race director, Bad Bob Baker will have enlarged course maps and profiles for your examination at early bib pick-up tonight.

A limited number of Sonot Kkaazoot hats with Margo Klass’ striking Northern Lights design will be available for sale for $25 cash or check (made out to Nordic Ski Club of Fairbanks) only.

216 skiers signed up for 2017 Sonot after regular registration ended

As late registration begins, we have a total of 216 skiers from throughout Alaska and beyond signed up to ski one to the 4 events making up the 30th annual Sonot Kkaazoot. 134 skiers are signed up for the 20 km Sonot, including 19 skiers from Galena. 72 skiers will continue on to the Jim Whisenhant Ski Trails at Birch Hill Recreation Area to complete their 40 or 50 km courses.

Remember that all registration must be done online. Register by 7 p.m. on Thursday, 23 March and pay “late registration” fees. After that “race day” fees apply until 9 a.m. ADT on Saturday, 25 March 2017. Because of enhanced security considerations on Fort Wainwright, no foreign skiers may sign up for the 40 or 50 events after 7 p.m. on 23 March. By the end of bib pick-up, we must submit to the U.S. Army a list of all foreign skiers and their passport numbers and country of issue.

Check the “Entries” page and make sure that you entered all your information correctly.

The predicted below normal temperatures on race day will ensure that no skier has wet boots this year.
