Stuby skis 10 km virtual Sonot

Lisa Stuby skied the 10 km virtual Denali State Bank Sonot Kkaazoot today in a time of 1:01:16.

Lisa writes: “Feeling a bit tired from a wonderful season of skiing, but wanting that cool face mask, and it IS the Sonot, so I decided to ski the 10 K this morning.  The trails could not have been groomed any better and they were Magnificent!  On a scale of 1-10 I would give them a 12!”

Thank you, Lisa! I’m sure that our hard-working groomers will appreciate your kudos. An additional contribution to the trail fund (https://tinyurl.com/y93x7b3n) will also make them smile.

Lynn shows Shaun and Kathleen how to have a blast in virtual Sonot 10 km

Lynn Hoffman introduced Shaun Kraska and Kathleen Fillingim to the Sonot Kkaazoot on Sunday as they classical skied their virtual 10 km Denali State Bank Sonot Kkaazoot in 1:46.

Shaun writes: “Sunday, March 21st was a beautiful day to ski at Birch Hill.  Blue skies, no wind, and great tracks on the trails for classic skiers!  I skied with Kathleen Fillingim and Lynn Hoffman.  Kathleen and I were first time Sonot participants;  Lynn is a long time member of NSCF and showed us the ropes!  Our goal was to be outdoors, enjoy the day together and complete the 10K – we accomplished that!  While ours is not a ‘racing’ time, as you can see from our picture, we had a blast and would do it again next year!”

Welcome to the Sonot Kkaazoot family, Shaun and Kathleen! We’re delighted that Lynn was able to make your first experience so memorable. Your smiles are what race organizers hope to see.

Trio of FXC parents ski 10 km virtual Sonot as a team

Dana Truffer Moudra (skate), Dorte Dissing (classic), and Ben Bragonier (classic) skied their virtual 10 km Denali State Bank Sonot Kkaazoot today in a “comfortable 57:43:10.”

Ben, Dorte, and Dana

Ben writes for the trio:

“These staunchly middle-aged FXC parents didn’t “charge” the course, although they did dig deep to fight for first place as they lunged in unison for a photo finish. (Officials are reviewing tape. However, these athletes and their coaches have agreed to a three-way tie.)

Swix V40 Blue Extra was the kick of choice and it’s hard to say what the glider of choice was as all skis haven’t been glide-waxed this season.”

Congratulations to Ben, Dana, and Dorte (in alphabetical order since you finished in a three-way tie)!

Troyer skates 10 km virtual Sonot on slow snow

Eric Troyer skated his way around the virtual 10 km Denali State Bank Sonot Kkaazoot today in 51:43.

Eric writes: “I did my Sonot 10k today, skating since it was so warm. Among a few others, I saw Molly Yazwinski and Carl Hemming out there. Both said the snow was slow despite the temps in the 20s. I agree! It seemed particularly slow on the uphills. Still hoping to try for 50k on Sunday, but we’ll see.”

Sounds like Eric’s ski gives support to Dr. Don’s theory of skiing uphills and downhills. However, the 50 km virtual Sonot Kkaazoot will be the real test.

Sven Grage “runs” 10 km classic Sonot Kkaazoot

Sven Grage finished his 10 km classical virtual Denali State Bank Sonot Kkaazoot on Tuesday in 46:04, shown as the second lap below.

Sven writes:

“I was trying hard to ‘slide my feet across the snow’, yet running worked better for the most part on the very enjoyable 10 k classic loop 😉. Hoping for a bit more slide in the 30 and 50 k. The unavoidable end of winter is so much easier to handle WITH the Sonot Kkaazoot!”

Thanks, Sven. I agree as I seriously mourn the end of the ski season so skiing the Sonot Kkaazoot is really important to me, too.

Husby skates his virtual 10 km Sonot

Having classical skied all three Sonot Kkaazoot official distances, Bill Husby has started skating the virtual Denali State Bank Sonot Kkaazoot courses. Today, Bill skate skied the 10 km virtual Sonot Kkaazoot in 51:41.

Bill writes: “As Tom H and Corrine L would say, “ Skating is not real skiing”. Oh well! Here’s today’s skate time around the 10K course. See you tomorrow.”

Emily Watson-Cook skates 10 km virtual Sonot Kkaazoot

Emily Watson-Cook skated her virtual 10 km Denali State Bank Sonot Kkaazoot in an official time of 50:33.

Emily writes:

“I skied the 10 km Sonot course this afternoon and finished up around 3:38 pm. It was partly sunny t-shirt weather and the grooming was great – a perfect day for it!
My time was 50:33:38. I’m a 26 year old female and I was skating.”

Thanks Emily for your report and great selfie.

Dermot skates 10 km virtual Sonot

Dermot Cole, a writer and journalist, skis without hinderance of electronic devices to record his workout data. However, unlike Frank Soos and me, Dermot does own a smart phone that he carries when he skis to keep tabs on the pulse of the news.

He reported Saturday that he skated the 10 km virtual Denali State Bank Sonot Kkaazoot on Friday. He writes:

“Did the 10K course Friday, skating. Took an hour. More or less. Probably more. This is an estimate because I did have a timing device.”

This explains why Dermot misses most of the SCUM workouts as he arrives “more or less” at the appointed time. However, he thoroughly enjoys his workouts without the SCUM nagging him to look up.
